I have been busy, the past two Saturdays, going to lectures at the Society of Australian Genealogists.
Last week, Michelle Patient talked about Breaking Down Brickwalls. This gave us ideas, tips and useful websites to use to try and find where our ancestors got to. Using timelines was a tip, that I’d thought about but never used. Applying successful search strategies was another tip. This can be achieved by having a clear and simple question, you want answered.
Today’s lecture was Finding Elusive Ancestors. Michelle Patient and Karen Rogers, from The Guild of One-Name Studies, were the presenters. Look at your surname and try and see how there could be different spelling variations. Don’t forget that handwriting can play a huge part in how a name is spelt, or transcribed. Even how different people say the same name can vary.
